ANSI ist ein amerikanisches Normierungsgremium (ähnlich unserem DIN), auf dessen Arbeit viele wichtige Standards im Computerbereich zurückgehen. Das ANSI stand außerdem Pate für einen gleichnamigen Zeichensatz, der von Windows verwendet wird. Dieser 8 Bit große (und damit 256 Zeichen umfassendes ANSI-Zeichensatz ist wiederum nur eine Variante des ASCI-Zeichensatzes. Unter Windows wird für Zeichensätze auf ASCI-Basis auch der Begriff OEM verwendet. Hinzu kommt, dass in neueren Windows-Systemen außerdem der erweiterte 16-Bit-Zeichensatz Unicode unterstützt wird.
Eine einzige ANSI-Tabelle mit einem einheitlichen Zeichensatz kann man nicht angeben, da es derer mehrere gibt (je nach Sprache bzw. Land). Der für den deutschen Sprachbereich übliche ANSI-Zeichensatz wird auch Windows 1252 oder Latin I genannt und ist von Microsoft unter https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows-1252 dokumentiert.
